Holiday Fun Continues in Galveston This Weekend
with Surfing with Santa, Annual Tree Lighting

GALVESTON, Texas (Nov. 23, 2016) – After the opening of ICE LAND and Festival of Lights at Moody Gardens a couple of weeks ago, Galveston will continue in the spirit of the season with more holiday events kicking off this weekend.

The festivities begin Friday with the annual Galveston Holiday Lighting Celebration at Hotel Galvez. This free event will begin at 6 p.m. with the lighting of the hotel’s 35-foot Christmas tree and include live holiday entertainment by the Galveston Ballet, Christmas carols by area choirs and performances by a local hand bell choir. Santa will also make a special appearance and the hotel is offering a special weekend package as part of the event.

In the spirit of Black Friday, Galveston will host the Home for the Holidays Gift Market at the Moody Gardens Convention Center this weekend. Kick off your holiday shopping Friday from 12 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with 200 of the region’s most unique gift vendors offering distinctive home décor, candles, craft foods and more. Admission is $6.

Those looking to enjoy some thrills this Thanksgiving weekend can head to Holiday Splash at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark. At Holiday Splash, visitors to the indoor water park can go surfing with Santa, float through a giant holiday-themed snow globe in the tidal waves of the Torrent River, enjoy light displays and Christmas music, participate in ornament-making contests, visit with costumed holiday characters and more. Festivities will kick off on Friday and continue daily through December 31. Holiday Splash festivities are included with water park admission.

Visitors with a flair for the creative can get some holiday shopping done while enjoying an evening of free art viewing and hors d’oeuvres amid the beautiful Victorian architecture of historic downtown Galveston during Artwalk this Saturday. For details, visit www.galvestonartscenter.org.
