Galveston to Host Spanish Sailing Vessel El Galéon for Special Tours and Events
Media Preview to take place April 13
GALVESTON ISLAND, Tex. (April 11, 2017) – Members of the media are invited to attend an exclusive behind-the-scenes preview and tour of El Galéon – a visiting tall ship replica of a majestic Spanish galleon turned museum – before it opens to the public. The media preview will take place at 9 a.m. April 13 at the Texas Seaport Museum in Galveston.
El Galéon hails from Seville, Spain, sailing worldwide harboring a crew that lives aboard the ship 24 hours a day, offering tours to those interested in experiencing the stately 170-foot sailing vessel once used in the golden age of Western expansion into the Americas. The El Galéon will offer public tours in Galveston April 13-23, 2017.
During the media preview, representatives from the Galveston Historical Foundation will also make a special announcement revealing details about the Tall Ships America 2018 event, where Galveston’s Pier 22 will play host to a fleet of tall ships traveling port-to-port from across the globe. The 2018 event will give visitors a chance to board the vessels, meet the crew and connect people from diverse nations with the maritime culture and heritage of the Great Lakes, Pacific and Atlantic coasts.
WHAT: You’re invited to a media preview and behind-the-scenes tour of the visiting Spanish tall ship, El Galéon, before it opens to the public.
WHO: Texas Seaport Museum Port Captain Mark Scibinico and representatives from the Galveston Historical Foundation will be available to provide interviews and tours of El Galéon.
WHEN: Thursday, April 13, 2017. Media preview and behind-the-scenes tours will take place from 9:00-10:00 a.m.
