Gigantic Sandcastles to Decorate Galveston’s East Beach
 
Island to Host American Institute of Architects (AIA) Sandcastle Competition Aug. 25
 
GALVESTON, Texas (Aug. 1, 2018) – Gigantic sandcastles will decorate the shore of Galveston’s East Beach Saturday, Aug. 25 as the island hosts the 32nd annual American Institute of Architects (AIA) Sandcastle Competition.
 
One of the largest amateur sandcastle building competitions in the world, the AIA Sandcastle Competition will kick off at 8 a.m. with more than 60 teams of architects, designers and engineers competing for a chance to win the coveted Golden Bucket Award.
 
The event, sponsored by the Houston Chapter of AIA, is free for the public to attend. Gates will open at 8 a.m. The teams will build from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the public can vote for their favorite sandcastle from 1-3:30 p.m. Winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at 4:30 p.m. 
 
East Beach is located on the most eastern end of Galveston at 1923 Boddeker Drive. Parking at East Beach is $15 per vehicle.  For details, visit www.aiasandcastle.com
