Galveston Island Shrimp Festival Among Upcoming Events

GALVESTON, Texas (July 7, 2014) September may mark the end of summer, but it doesn’t mark the end of fun on Galveston Island. Next month’s calendar is full of special events to draw you to the island, from the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival to the Ironman 5150.

Galveston Island Shrimp Festival
Galveston Island is a seafood lover’s paradise all year round, but this September Yaga’s Entertainment Inc. will bring foodies a little taste of heaven at the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival to be held September 26-28. Featuring some of the best shrimp gumbo the Gulf Coast has to offer, this year’s festival features an expanded area in Galveston’s historic downtown with a free boat & RV show, seafood cook-off, a 5K run, children’s activities and more. For details, visit www.galvestonshrimpfestival.com.

Ironman 5150 in Galveston
On Sept. 21 Galveston will host a race for champions with the island’s Ironman 5150. Part of the new Ironman 5150 Triathlon Series, competitors at this event will swim 1.5 kilometers in Offats Bayou and bike 40 kilometers through Galveston’s west end before making a 10K run through scenic Moody Gardens. Visit www.5150galveston.com for details.

Redfish Rodeo
Scores of women from across the country will reel in a catch for a cause as part of the 20th annual Redfish Rodeo – a three-day ladies fishing tournament to take place Sept. 18-21 at the new Pelican Rest Marina in Galveston.  More than 100 women representing dozens of teams will compete for money to donate to their favorite charity. For more information, visit www.rrtournaments.com.

Live Theater Performances
Galveston will offer a variety of exciting shows for the lover of performing arts. On Sept. 13, The Grand 1894 Opera House will open its season with The Pointer Sisters, popular for their stirring 80’s hits including He's So Shy and Dare Me. Then, don’t miss The Official Blues Brothers Revue as it lights up the stage at The Grand on Sept. 20. An eight-piece rhythm & blues revue band will recreate the passion and fun of the original Saturday Night Live Blues Brothers. Visit www.thegrand.com for details. Finally, Island ETC Theatre will present “The Dixie Swim Club” Sept. 12-27. For details, visit www.islandetc.com.
