Galveston Island to Host Fireworks, Beachfront Parade for July 4th Weekend

GALVESTON, Texas (June 7, 2016) – If you’re looking for a change of scenery to celebrate Independence Day, Galveston Island is just the place to make your holiday a true getaway. From fireworks over the beach to a traditional hometown parade, Galveston will offer plenty of excitement for the 4th of July.

On the evening of July 4, Galveston Island will celebrate its annual Independence Day parade featuring a procession of floats, decorated military vehicles and performers. The parade will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Seawall Boulevard starting at 45th Street and ending at 22nd Street.

After the parade, the island will host a 20-minute fireworks show over the Gulf of Mexico at 9:15 p.m. near 37th Street and Seawall Boulevard. The Galveston Park Board of Trustees is sponsoring the fireworks display.

Also during the 4th of July weekend, Moody Gardens will host its popular Bands on the Sand concert series on Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2. Each concert will be followed by a fireworks display over Offatts Bayou. Bands on the Sand concerts are held from 6-10 p.m. at Moody Gardens’ Palm Beach. Tickets are $15 per person. Movie Nite on The Strand

Grab your chairs, blankets and pillows and head to downtown Galveston for a free, family-friendly movie under the stars. Movie Nite on the Strand will take place at 7 p.m. July 2, with a showing of the film A Christmas Story at Saengerfest Park, located at the corner of 23rd and Strand streets.
