Dickens on The Strand: World-Famous Victorian Holiday Festival to Take Place in Galveston This Weekend with Descendants of Charles Dickens
Festival Transforms Historic Downtown Galveston into Victorian London of Charles Dickens
GALVESTON, TEXAS (November 28, 2018) – The world-famous Dickens on The Strand festival will bring holiday charm to Galveston this weekend, transforming the island’s historic Strand into the Victorian London of Charles Dickens.
The popular street festival kicks off on Friday and will continue through Sunday with a full lineup of special events, parades, live entertainment and special appearances from descendants of Charles Dickens.
Visitors to Dickens on The Strand can experience an enchanted journey back in time to 19th century London as characters from Dickens novels walk the streets and costumed vendors peddle their wares from street stalls and rolling carts laden with holiday food and drink, Victorian-inspired crafts, clothing, jewelry, holiday decorations and gifts. Strolling carolers and roving musicians will fill the area with enchanting sounds from another era.
The festival, put on by Galveston Historical Foundation, features a new special kick-off event on Thursday, Nov. 29: A Dickens Champagne Reception will take place at the 1838 Menard house and will give guests an opportunity to meet Dickens descendants Oliver Dickens, Lucinda Dickens Hawksley and Jane Dickens Monk. Tickets are $20 per person.
