Holiday Fun Continues in Galveston with Laser Shows, Hotel Galvez Tree Lighting and More This Weekend

GALVESTON, Texas (November 26, 2019) – After the opening of Moody Gardens’ daily ICE LAND and Festival of Lights events earlier this month, Galveston will continue in the spirit of the season with more holiday events taking place this weekend.

Downtown Lasers & Lights will unveil a new addition on Friday with free four-hour holiday laser shows synchronized to music and projected on the American National Insurance Company Building from 6 to 10 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 22. The shows will complement a magical display of lights and other holiday-themed attractions in Saengerfest Park – and beyond. Highlights at Saengerfest Park include a 30-feet-tall Christmas tree and a giant snow globe for visitors to enjoy on weekends. In addition, lights are hung on The Strand from 20th to 25th streets as well as along 23rd and Postoffice streets. While in the area, visitors can tackle some of their holiday shopping at the district’s many gift shops, boutiques, art galleries and antique shops set among beautiful Victorian architecture.

Galveston Holiday Lighting Celebration at Hotel Galvez will take place Friday at 6 p.m. This free event will feature live performers, including the Galveston Ballet, visits with Santa and the lighting of the city’s official 35-feet Christmas tree. www.hotelgalvez.com

The Grand 1894 Opera House will continue its holiday show lineup Saturday at 8 p.m. with Merry Christmas from the Doo Wop Project. The Doo Wop Project will put a holiday spin on a show featuring stars of Broadway’s hits Jersey Boys, Motown: The Musical, and Chazz Palminteri's A Bronx Tale, bringing an unparalleled authenticity of sound and vocal excellence to recreate – and in some cases entirely reimagine –  some of the greatest music in American pop and rock history. www.thegrand.com

Also, visitors with a flair for the creative can get some holiday shopping done on Small Business Saturday while enjoying an evening of free art viewing and hors d’oeuvres amid the beautiful Victorian architecture of historic downtown Galveston during Artwalk from 6-9 p.m. www.galvestonartscenter.org/artwalk Moviegoers can take in a free show on the big screen in Saengerfest Park when Movie Nite on the Strand presents The Polar Express on Saturday at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair a blanket and some hot cocoa to cap off the Thanksgiving weekend with this holiday classic.
