Spend Father’s Day Weekend in Galveston with New and Unique Activities to Celebrate Dad

GALVESTON, Texas (June 8, 2015) – With Father’s Day just days away, families are looking for the perfect gift. This year, visitors to Galveston can give the gift of experience, with a variety of new and unique activities to share with dad amid a relaxing oasis.

Here’s a list of exciting ways to make memories with dad in Galveston this Father’s Day weekend:

1. Take Dad on a Historic “War Bird” Flight
For dads interested in aviation, there is no better experience than taking a flight over the island in one of the Lone Star Flight Museum’s historic World War II era aircraft. These “war birds” will transport dad to another time as he adventures in this one-of-a-kind experience. The flight museum offers flight experiences in its T-6 Texan, PT-17 Stearman and the T-41 Muscalero, providing a birds-eye view of the island in some of the most legendary machines in history.

2. Raise Your Glass To Dad at Galveston Island Brewing
Hoist your mugs to dad this Father’s Day weekend while taking him on a brewery tour at Galveston Island Brewing. This local brewery offers free, behind-the-scenes tours every Saturday, highlighting the process of making beer from "grain to glass." Dad can sample exclusive beers in the brewery’s tap room or enjoy the outdoor yard area complete with games and "sundowner seats" for viewing Galveston's relaxing sunsets.

3. Take Dad to the Texas Tequila & Margarita Festival June 19-20
Legend has it that the margarita was invented in Galveston, which makes it the perfect spot for the Texas Tequila & Margarita Festival. The festival, which takes place June 19-20 at Moody Gardens, includes a Friday Tour de Tequila tasting and sampling session where local chefs will demonstrate a variety of food pairings. Saturday’s festivities include a margarita grand tasting and competition, plus an outdoor margarita festival featuring an oasis of food, drinks, live music and a vendor village.

4. Take Dad on a Galveston Fishing Trip
If you would rather reel in lunch, get some fresh air and spend quality time with dad on the water. For anyone seeking fresh seafood and coastal recreation, Galveston is the perfect fishing destination. Cast a line at any of Seawall’s two public fishing piers complete with observation decks and concessions or head to Seawolf Park— a hotspot for trout and redfish. If dad is feeling ambitious, book a deep sea fishing charter to reel in bigger fish like Snapper, Tuna and Shark. Many local restaurants on the island will even prepare your catch!

5. Golf Outing at Moody Gardens Golf Course
Hit the green with dad this Father’s Day and play a round of golf at the Moody Gardens Golf Course. Open to the public, the course is complemented by lush scenery and designed for all age groups and skill sets. In 2010, it was named one of the best golf course remodels in the country by Golf Digest. The course was designed by renowned golf course architects Jacobsen Hardy Golf Course Design.

6. Feasts Fit For a King
All these activities are sure to work up a hearty appetite. Families can refuel with dad at Galveston restaurants and resorts offering special Father’s Day Brunches, including The San Luis Resort, The Hilton Galveston Island Resort, Pelican Club and Hotel Galvez among others. Plus, dads eat free on Father’s Day at the new BLVD Seafood restaurant which opened its doors to the public this month.
